Why Did 12 Republicans Bail on Trump's Border Wall Emergency Declaration?

They Are Obstructionists

We have come to expect obstruction from the Democrats when it comes to a border wall.  While they run in circles proclaiming, "The sky is falling!  The sky is falling" and warning of a climate apocalypse in 12 years to scare us into trading our freedom for socialism through the Green New Deal, they ignore the crisis at our border.  When confronted with the facts on illegal immigration--4,000 murders, 30,000 sex crimes, 100,000 assaults, and 266,000 arrests--not to mention the human and drug trafficking, $279 billion annual burden on taxpayers, and eradicated diseases they bring back into our society, they fluff it off like a fly on the shoulder.  Their flagrant disregard for the Kate Steinles and the Angel Families in this country is irredeemable.

Americans want a border wall.  It's one of the key issues Trump campaigned on, and it's a major reason why he was elected.  The radical Left knows the fulfillment of this promise will kill their chances in 2020, though their agenda for the dissolution of our Constitutional Republic for a tyrannical socialist regime already guarantees their prospects will be D.O.A.

The Crisis is Real

Is there a real crisis on the border, or is it manufactured?  Since the radical Dems are calling it "manufactured," you know it's just the opposite.

Each week, 300 people die as a result of drugs entering through the southern border, including 90% of the heroin.  This is not a crisis?

There's also a term for thousands upon thousands of people storming a nation's border illegally--INVASION.

As for the humanitarian crisis, people attempting to cross our borders illegally with no respect to our rule of law put themselves in this position.  It's like touching a hornet and then lamenting you got stung.  What did you expect?  Anyone who chooses to drag their families over dangerous terrain with little water while subjecting them to brutal criminal gangs is unwise. In America, we would call that bad parenting, probably even abuse.
You don't question an English teacher about algebra or chemistry; you don't visit a chiropractor to have a cavity fixed; and you don't turn to a chef to perform your surgical incision just because he's handy with a knife.  When you need an expert opinion, you turn to the ones immersed in the respective field.

What do border agents have to say about the crisis?  Is it real or imagined?  A survey of 600 agents found that 89 percent overwhelmingly support Trump's position. Astonishingly, 12 Republicans went rogue and voted against the emergency declaration.  Here's who they and the reasons behind their decision:

MARCO RUBIO (Florida)We have a crisis at our southern border, but no crisis justifies violating the Constitution.  Today's national emergency is border security.  But a future president may use this exact same tactic to impose the Green New Deal.

RAND PAUL (Kentucky):  I can't vote to give the president the power to spend money that hasn't been appropriated by Congress.  We may want more money for border security, but Congress didn't authorize it.  If we take away those checks and balances, it's a dangerous thing.

MITT ROMNEY (Utah):  This is a vote for the Constitution and for the balance of power that is at its core.  For the executive branch to override a law passed by Congress would make it the ultimate power rather than a balancing power.  I am seriously concerned that overreach by the executive branch is an invitation to further expansion and abuse by future presidents.

ROB PORTMAN (Ohio):
I strongly support the President's plan at the border, but want to do it without the bad precedent of an emergency declaration.  Declaring a national emergency to access different funds sets a dangerous new precedent.

Republicans in Name Only (RINOS)

The remaining eight senators who broke from President Trump in dissent share similar reasons for their RINO behavior.  Here's a list of them:

  • Lisa Murkowski--Alaska
  • Susan Collins--Maine
  • Mike Lee--Utah
  • Lamar Alexander--Tennessee
  • Pat Toomey--Pennsylvania
  • Roy Blunt--Missouri
  • Jerry Moran--Kansas
  • Roger Wicker--Mississippi

These 12 Republicans tried to appease voters by playing both sides of the fence by declaring their support for border security while voting against the means to make it happen.  Here's what President Trump tweeted about these traitors:
I'd like to thank all of the Great Republican Senators who bravely voted for Strong Border Security and the WALL.  This will help stop Crime, Human Trafficking, and Drugs entering our Country.  Watch, when you get back to your State, they will LOVE you more than ever before!
Yes, it's time to drain the swamp and vote these gutless wonders out of office next election.

Funding the Wall

The turncoat senators assert President Trump can access nearly $6 billion in funds he needs for border security without invoking a national emergency.  Congress approved $1.375 billion in the budget, and $601 million is available from the Treasury Forfeiture Fund.  In addition, the defense appropriations bill allows him to transfer up to $4 billion for counter-narcotics programs, which can be used for barriers and fencing.

President Trump is Not Violating Constitution

RINOS accuse Trump of violating the Constitution with an emergency declaration.  He's not.  Not only does the National Emergencies Act of 1976 give the president this power, but so does 10 US Code Section 284 , which is support for counter drug activities and activities to counter transnational organized crime.  This statute allows for construction of roads and fences and installation of lighting to block drug smuggling corridors across international boundaries of the United States.

If senators are so fearful about future presidents wielding too much power, then they should introduce legislation to deal with the laws currently on the books bequeathing this authority to the president.

Irrational Hype

Senator Rob Portman from Ohio communicated this concern to his constituents:
A future president could seize industries or can control means of communication—like the Internet. A future president may well say that climate change is a national emergency and use emergency authorities to implement the Green New Deal. Future presidents could use this authority to tear down the very wall we are now constructing – and some Democrats running for president have said that’s what they want to do.
Portman's statement is true, and it should scare you.  While we know the radical socialists comprising the entire Democratic Party push the envelope as far as they can, declaring an emergency to take over the Internet or impose the Green New Deal would be a clear violation of the Constitution because such feigned crises do not fall within the perimeters of the National Emergencies Act or 10 US Code Section 284.  If the radicals attempt a coup of our capitalist society through such devious means, then they will spark a new American Revolution.

The radical Left doesn't need a precedent anyway.  They push forward with their extreme, insane, and destructive agenda against the will of the people, disenfranchising American voters in their quest for power.  It's time for Republicans to unite and start acting like they possess a backbone.

The Chuck and Nancy Show

Predictably, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi admit we have a Constitution when it suits their purposes.  They usually pretend it doesn't exist.  The same people who want to abolish the Electoral College and eliminate our Constitutional Republic and have a track record of overstepping its boundaries had this to say about President Trump's veto:
It is no surprise that the president holds the rule of law and our Constitution in minimal regard.  There is no emergency; Congress has refused to fund his wall multiple times; Mexico won't pay for it; and a bipartisan majority in both chambers just voted to terminate his fake emergency, Schumer said in his statement.
House Republicans will have to choose between their partisan hypocrisy and their sacred oath to support and defend the Constitution, Pelosi said regarding the House vote to override the veto on March 26.
It's unlikely the veto will be undone, however, because it would require a two-thirds majority vote.
